You may be a for-sale-by-owner, but I have been selling houses for three and a half decades. And here’s a hint for you. Over the years, I have usually used the MLS lock that all my contemporaries used.
Access for these locks has changed according to the vendor who was in use at the time. Some opened with a small round key like the one people used on a Coke machine, for example. Some required a piece of equipment to be inserted into the lock mechanism, and some required only buttons to be pushed.
As they became more sophisticated, they could keep track of whoever came in your house. They were also accessible ONLY by a member of the MLS and not the public. All this is good, in a way, adding a layer of security, but when codes or locks or batteries in them acted up, they became worthless until repaired.

The Master lock hat some agents used (probably because of expense) has a spin cylinder that must be adjusted so that the correct four digits face you. This combination can be changed by the owner whenever they wish.
The best situation is that the lock be on your front door with your door key in it. I recommend that we NOT put the code on your MLS listing, but instead only when you receive a call to see or show your house, can you get the identification of that prospect and only then give out the combination.
This seems to be a fairly adequate layer of security, and I suggest you change your combination every few days, especially if you are having a lot or showings. Of course, never leave your Rolex on your nightstand.
There is nothing complicated about this lock, no bells and whistles to act up, no batteries to run down. Some would almost call it “fool-proof.” You are trading a very small amount of money for very large savings of time and inconvenience. Check it out today.
